New York Charities Tap SCA to Cover Third Annual Million Dollar Duck Races
Ducks Will Race East River for Special Olympics New York on September 17; Hudson River for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer County on September 20.

DALLAS, TX – September 09, 2003 – SCA Promotions, the leading provider of promotional prize coverage, today announced that Special Olympics New York and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer County have asked SCA to cover the million-dollar prize for a third year in each of their annual Million Dollar Duck Race fundraisers. The previous races raised more than $75,000 for Special Olympics New York and more than $20,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer.

On September 17 at 5:30 p.m., 20,000 rubber ducks will race the East River from just south of the Brooklyn Bridge to Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport to benefit Special Olympics New York. On September 20 at 2 p.m., 10,000 rubber ducks will take the plunge from Dunn Memorial Bridge into the Hudson River to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer County.

To be eligible to win the million dollars, “parents” can adopt a duck for $5. To support Special Olympics, visit
www.specialolympicsnewyork.org or call 212-490-1062. To support the Boys and Girls Clubs, visit www.ducksforkids.com or call 518-465-3403.

For both events, one out of every 3,333 ducks is marked a million-dollar duck. If one of these ducks crosses the finish line first, its adopted “parent” wins $1 million.

“The chance to win a million dollars really sells ducks, which benefits our athletes,” said Victoria Stubrin, associate director of development for Special Olympics New York. “Even if the million-dollar duck doesn’t win, people still win great prizes.“ Prizes include American Airlines tickets, a Club Med vacation for two, and a one-year membership to New York Sports Clubs.

“It’s great to be able to give someone in our community a shot at a million bucks, and not worry about paying it,” said Richard Van Vorst, executive director, Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Rensselaer. The ducks race the last day of RensselaerFest 2003, which runs September 18 – 20 at Riverfront Park. This year’s secondary prizes include a cash prize of $2003, a Club East membership, a 32” TV, a shopping spree and more.
